Campus Beverages
Brigham Young University has contracted with Coca-Cola as the exclusive beverage provider for all BYU campus units in the Provo area. Accordingly, Coca-Cola products must be served whenever university funds are used to purchase beverages.
Please note that donated beverages that are not Coca-Cola products may not be served or distributed on campus. Beverages purchased with personal funds for individual consumption are not subject to these requirements.

- All Creamery store locations
Discounted departmental pricing for Dasani water is available. Additional information can be found on the BYU Dining Services website.
Frequently Asked Questions
What specifically does the BYU–Coca-Cola–Swire contract require?
The contract has two primary requirements:
- Beverages served at campus functions must be Coca-Cola products.
- Those products must be supplied through Swire Coca-Cola's distribution network.
How can I ensure my purchase complies with the contract?

- BYU Food To Go
- BYU Catering
- All Creamery store locations
May I bring non-Coca-Cola beverages to campus for personal consumption?
Yes. Beverages purchased with personal funds for personal consumption are not governed by the contract.
What qualifies as a campus function?
For beverage purposes, a campus function is any event where beverages are served and consumed. This includes:
- Public events
- Private events
- Exempt events
- Department meetings
- Team meetings
Department-sponsored potluck events are exempt from beverage contract requirements provided that no university funds are used.
How much beverage inventory does Dining Services keep in stock?
BYU Food To Go typically maintains approximately 50 cans of each beverage flavor in inventory. Larger quantities can be accommodated through the standard ordering process. Swire Coca-Cola delivers to designated Dining Services locations twice weekly.
How much advance notice is needed for beverage orders?
Lead time depends on order size. BYU Food To Go recommends placing orders at least three business days in advance. Orders meeting this timeline may be submitted through the Food To Go ordering system.
For events occurring within three business days, Dining Services may still be able to accommodate requests. Contact 801-422-5001 for assistance with urgent orders.
Is Coke Zero available?
Yes. Coke Zero is stocked by Dining Services in both cans and bottles. Additional Coca-Cola products and flavors may be ordered with advance notice, subject to availability through Swire Coca-Cola.
Can we serve Dr Pepper?
Swire Coca-Cola does not hold distribution rights for canned or bottled Dr Pepper products in Utah County. However, Dr Pepper is available through Coca-Cola Freestyle machines located in:
- Cougareat
- Cougar Express
- CONE
- Harvey's
- Legends Grille
These machines operate under a separate distribution agreement.
Can departments accept donated beverages that are not Coca-Cola products?
Generally, no. Donated beverages that are not Coca-Cola products may not be served or distributed on campus. The sole exception is Brick Oven Root Beer, which is permitted whether donated or purchased.
What is the most cost-effective way to purchase Dasani water?
Dasani water is available through Dining Distribution in 24-count cases at departmental pricing. Water is stocked in large quantities, and most orders can be fulfilled with minimal advance notice. Dasani water is also available through BYU Catering, BYU Food To Go, and Creamery locations.
May departments purchase Coca-Cola products from Costco, Walmart, or other retailers?
No. While Coca-Cola products may be available from these retailers, BYU cannot verify that they were supplied through Swire Coca-Cola. Such purchases therefore do not fully satisfy contract requirements.
Additionally, purchases made through third-party retailers do not count toward BYU's contractual beverage volume commitments, even if the products originally came from Swire Coca-Cola. To ensure compliance and proper contract credit, beverages should be purchased through BYU Dining Services.
Are Coca-Cola products required when dining at off-campus restaurants using university funds?
No. Meals purchased at off-campus restaurants are not governed by the BYU Catering and Food Distribution Policy or the Coca-Cola beverage contract.
Are five-gallon water coolers permitted under the contract?
Yes. The university may provide drinking water through five-gallon water coolers in locations where drinking fountains are not readily available. Departments may not charge individuals for this water and should request unbranded water containers whenever possible.
